In the Graeco-Roman world, shortly after Christ's death and resurrection, Paul, an apostle and missionary on his behalf, ends his letter to the Ephesians with a profound admonition, an admonition that must be heard by all believers, not just Christians . from the time of the apostle Paul in history: "Put on the whole armor of God."

The Scripture of the Armor of God of the Believer
To begin, let's take a look at our main scripture on God's armor, Ephesians 6:10-17, which proudly encourages:
“Besides, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the full armor of God to withstand the wiles of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against the rules, against the authorities, against the cosmic forces over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places. Therefore, take all the armor of God to resist on the bad day, and having done all, stand firm.
“So stand firm, girded with the sash of truth, clothed in the breastplate of righteousness, and like shoes for your feet, clothed in the raiment that the gospel gives of peace. By all means take the shield of faith, with which you can quench all fiery arrows of evil, and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God."
Before we delve into the pieces of God's armor, there are some important considerations about the nature of the armor itself. Paul affirms that all of God's armor is used to defend against the devil's designs, in a battle, not against physically present enemies, but against spiritual powers at work throughout our world. As such it is not physical armor, it cannot be worn in any physical sense. If so we would love to sell it to you and support the kingdom of God, but unfortunately it is a spiritual symbol that you must hold in your heart. However, it has no lack of applicable power, and by faith we can still be clothed with it, even as we are "clothed with righteousness." It is symbolic, but this symbol represents a very real activity of faith.
The pieces of our armor of God
Now, without further ado, if we are to put on the full armor of God, as Paul suggests, we must know its parts. These are: the girdle of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace (used as footwear), the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit. All of this is key and beneficial to each and every believer; Paul said to put on the whole armor of God, not just a part. So let's share a little about these armor pieces in hopes of enriching your faith in the process.
First the belt of truth is mentioned, meaning that truth must be bound to us or surround us at all times. We don't want our lives to be ruled by the devil's lies; Truth is a necessity in any meaningful life. Truth is even one of the terms Jesus used to describe himself in John 14:6: "I am the way thatTRUE, and life." God can be trusted to speak the truth and impress it on your heart because HeesTRUE. So staying with the truth, consulting and pondering the living Word of God is a very practical way.
The second is the breastplate of righteousness. In fact, as mentioned above, putting on righteousness is an idea found elsewhere, not just in the Scriptures on God's armor in Ephesians. However, it is particularly worth noting that Ephesians is not even the first mention of a "chain of righteousness." Isaiah 59:17 mentions "righteousness as a breastplate," but it is God who puts it on. Through Christ's sacrifice and resurrection, we can by grace put on his righteousness. As such, we must allow our identity to be found in Him.
Next comes the gospel (good news) of peace, which Paul is urged to wear as shoes. Once again, Paul was actually repeating an idea found in Isaiah (so surely he knew his Scriptures!), Isaiah 52:7, to be precise where it says, “How beautiful are the feet of those who hear the good news proclaim those who proclaim peace! .” Paul even refers to it again in Romans 10:15. It is also no coincidence that the gospel is presented in shoes. It is meant to be shared, so wearing these shoes represents a willingness to stand up and share the gospel.
Next comes the Shield of Faith. Psalm 18:2 says, "The Lord is my protector." Indeed, the shield is an instrument of protection, and using it is as simple as having a simple and unshakable faith that God will give you the protection you need. Yes, it is our responsibility to put on the full armor of God and face the devil, but ultimately he is the one to whom we owe victory.
Next comes the helmet of redemption, also mentioned in Isaiah 59:17 right next to the breastplate of righteousness. As such, it is God's helmet that we may wear; By His power we have salvation from brokenness, sin, and death. Trust it and let it cover your head.
Finally, there's the Sword of the Spirit, a piece of God's armor that some have pointed out is the only piece built primarily for attack. True, but we must not confuse attack with unnecessary combat. There is a whole world around us, filled with many people who are completely unarmed and vulnerable. So when we put on the shoes of the gospel of peace, it is best if we step out ready to fight with the Holy against the spiritual strongholds of this world.
