Start here if you have a new Google Nest doorbell (wired) or if you removed the doorbell from the app and want to add it back.
You need the app to connect your doorbell to WiFi and get recorded video, so you should always use the app as your primary guide to setting up and installing your doorbell.
Here's a brief overview of the steps to get started, along with some important troubleshooting.

How to set up and install the Google Nest Hello video doorbell
1. Check compatibility and voltage requirements
Although the Nest Doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system doesn't provide enough power or provides too much power. You need to check if your current doorbell can be replaced by Nest Doorbell.

2. Make sure you have everything to install
Make sure you have all the parts included in the box. We also include wall anchors and a masonry drill bit (for brick, stone, and stucco) if you need them.

Application and internet requirements
- The latest version of the app

- Your WiFi network password
- A broadband internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 2 Mbps for each Nest camera or doorbell in your home
3. Turn off the doorbell system

4. Remove your old doorbell
Remove your old doorbell and disconnect the wires. You will likely need a screwdriver for this step.
Advice:When you remove the old doorbell, fold the doorbell wires or tape them down so they don't slide into the wall.
5. Connect your doorbell to the app
If you're new to Nest
- Download the Nest app fromApple App StoreoGoogle Play.
- Open the app and create an account.
- From the app home screen, tap Add
.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell. you can also touchcontinue without scanningand enter the numbers at the top of the QR code.
- The app will guide you through setup and installation.
If you already have an account
- Open the Nest app

in the upper left corner of the home screen to change houses.

- In the top right corner of the app's home screen, tap Settings

Add your camera to the Home app after setup
After setup in the Nest app, you can add your Nest camera to your home in the Home app. This allows you to control your camera and other connected devices (like a smart light bulb or Google speaker) from the same place.
Set up smart home devices in the Home app
Observation- If you're already signed in to the Nest app with a Google account, your Nest Doorbell and some other products in your Nest home should also show up in your home in the Home app. You may need to close and reopen both apps for them to appear.
6. Troubleshoot if necessary
During setup, the app allows you to connect your doorbell to Wi-Fi, customize settings, check video quality, and more.

Connection issues
If it can't find your Wi-Fi network or your doorbell is having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, here are some things you can do to try to fix the problem:
- Wait a few minutes and try connecting the doorbell again.
- If possible, move the doorbell and router closer together to improve the signal.
- Reduce wireless interference.
- Try restarting your router.
- If you have a hidden Wi-Fi network, you will need to enter the network name (SSID) manually.

power problems
Signs that your doorbell is not receiving enough power include the following:
- The doorbell does not turn on.
- You receive a message or status in the app that there is not enough power.
- Things like Wi-Fi connection and video quality can also suffer when there isn't enough power.
To try to correct the problem, make sure the power is on and the wires are properly connected to the doorbell.
Video quality issues
If the doorbell has lag or video lag, it's usually a sign that your Wi-Fi connection is weak. It could also be a sign that the doorbell is not getting enough power. Try the following to try to fix the problem:
- If possible, move the doorbell and router closer together to improve the signal.
- Reduce wireless interference.
- Make sure the wires are properly connected to your doorbell.
If the doorbell video is distorted, here are some things you can do to fix the problem:
- Remove dust from the camera lens.
- Make sure your doorbell is shaded and protected from extreme weather conditions. Although Nest Doorbells are designed to work outdoors, extremely high or low temperatures can affect things like video quality.

ringing problems
If you have a mechanical doorbell with moving parts and it doesn't sound right, try the following:
- Remove the doorbell cover and make sure the wires do not touch any moving parts.
- Then make sure that the exposed ends of the wire (with bare copper) are not touching.
- Then test your hood again.
- If your doorbell still doesn't sound right, try installing the connector on the outside of the doorbell cover if you haven't already.
